Indian Head Massage

Indian Massage Chart

Indian Head Massage (known as “Champi” in some parts of India) has been practised there as a family ritual for more than 5000 years. It was brought to the UK by Narendra Mehta in 1981.

It is based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing systems. Ayurvedic medicine is a holistic healing system which combines natural therapies and encompasses the mind, body and spirit. It strives to restore balance and inner harmony to the mind, body and spirit to improve the health of an individual.

Indian Head Massage

The massage is performed on the shoulders, neck, scalp, and face, with the client sitting in a chair. The therapist uses their hands to knead, rub and massage the muscle tissue. Doing this releases muscle tension, thereby allowing the blood to circulate better and with it carrying oxygen and nutrients which are so important for the function of the brain. It also increases lymphatic flow to help rid the body of toxins and other waste products.

Indian Head Massage is very much an experience of soothing and calming sensations, releasing chemicals called endorphins which create a feeling of contentment and happiness.

What Indian Head Massage could do for you:

  • Help to relieve tension, stiffness and fatigue
  • Stimulate and invigorate: the lymphatic system assists detoxification of the body
  • Aid relaxation: the massage gives a feeling of calm and wellbeing
  • Tone and strengthen muscles
  • Aid circulation to the head, neck, and shoulders: the improved oxygen and nutrients will help to improve the condition of the skin and stimulate hair growth, while improved circulation to the brain can help with concentration and mental fatigue
  • Promote a better sense of well-being: the total relaxation helps with irritability and improves sleep
